- oooI have been involved in alternative architectural design since the 1960's. A graduate of California Polytechnic University, I've also taken advanced study at The University of Utah, University of Wisconsin and Harvard University.
As a Peace Corps Architect volunteer in Tunisia and Guinea, in Africa, I became involved in traditional and alternative methods of environmental design. I have lived and practiced in Santa Fe, NM, The Sea Ranch, CA and Nevada City, CA designing over 500 passive solar and alternative construction buildings, both residential and commercial/institutional. Nationally certified as an Architect, I'm licensed to practice in several states and can work throughout the United States, as well as overseas.
I've written two books on passive solar architecture and have been published in many periodicals and books including: Sunset Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Architecture Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, National Geographic and many others. I've also received design awards and recognition by many organizations, and have lectured throughout the United States and Europe. My work has been exhibited at several international exhibits. For a partial listing of my experience, please refer to the "kudos" page.
Today the focus of my work is the innovative integration of advanced building materials along with passive solar and solar electric technologies into main-stream architectural environmental design. Sustainability, green materials, self sufficiently, and energy efficiency are an integrated part of each innovative architectural solution.
