About Hyland Fisher

Hyland has been keenly interested in sustainability for years and chose to devote himself to architecture in order to satisfy his compulsion to have positive impact on our culture, natural & built environments. Though he tried to stray from architecture, he had no choice as it is in his blood, his father a carpenter and his grandfather a Princeton School of Architecture graduate.

Hyland received a Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University and was a TA at the University’s “Green” Architecture course. Hyland interned with O’Brien and Associates, assisting in the development of Portland General Electric’s Earth Smart Program and with the City of Portland’s Energy Office (which later became the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability).

He has volunteered his time with the Solar Energy Association of Oregon, the University of Oregon HOPES conference and Portland’s Yellow Bike Program. He also volunteered with the City Repair Project of Portland and has helped build cobb & strawbale structures.

For half a decade Hyland was the Vice President of Bicyclists of Nevada County (a mountain bike advocacy group). He is currently the Co-Chair of the Round Mountain Planning Group’s Recreation Committee. He spends his free time racing cross country and ultra endurance mountain bike events. He also manages the Xtreme Outfitters Mountain Bike Race Team.

He is the primary material specifier and production assistant at David Wright Associates, choosing sustainable, or “green,” products when available. Hyland produces the 3D models for the office and assists David with the design, drawing and detailing of projects. He has extensive experience with S.I.P.s building design and detailing. Hyland enjoys the intimacy of working on residential projects and the challenge of commercial jobs.

Hyland is the next generation of Architects specializing in the field of sustainability; emphasizing low-toxicity, energy-efficiency, alternative energy and new construction technologies. Hyland was awarded his California Architect's license on his 36th birthday in March of 2010.
